Time

In western culture, we are obsessed with time. Calendars, clocks, alarms, reminders. We carry around time on our wrists and have alerts that are constantly reminding us of our plans or schedules. We measure time unlike any previous generation.  Modern day scientists and microchip engineers have split time down to infinitesimal measurements. A zeptosecond, for … Continue reading Time

Lament

God welcomes our laments. In fact, nothing is more freeing and healthy in our relationship with Him than voicing how we really feel and knowing He totally understands. Our questions and frustrations don’t frustrate Him. In fact He wrote the book on them. The bulk of what we call the wisdom books of Scripture, Job and Psalms, are laments. The wisdom of God, it seems, is lamenting to God.

I AM with You

One of the greatest, most comforting, and most repeated promises of God in His Word is,“I am with you.” God’s desire is to be with us, live with us, love us, and, as we say today, “do life with us.” In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth as a place to be … Continue reading I AM with You

Tired (of Social Media)

In our modern era of social media, we love to post pics of our family, vacations, the food we ate, parties we went to, the games we played or watched, links to funny videos, and so much more. It's a great way to share a part of our lives with our family and friends. Those … Continue reading Tired (of Social Media)

Chronicles

By the time we get to the Old Testament Chronicles (reading through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation), we’re tired of history. Done. After all, the Chronicles seems to repeat what we’ve just read in Samuel and Kings. Making it more difficult, it seems, is the really slow beginning of nine chapters of genealogies. Name after … Continue reading Chronicles

Read thru the Bible

Want to read the Bible with others and me in 2019? Here are a couple options: read thru the entire Bible (http://bit.ly/2F0ABCn) or just the New Testament (http://bit.ly/2s1xRgq). The most important thing is taking time to know God through His Word on a regular basis and living it out each day with others. "Let the … Continue reading Read thru the Bible

Christmas Clothes

Born on Christmas morning, Jesus was wrapped in swaddling cloths and placed in a feeding trough (Luke 2:1-15). Transfigured on the mountain, His clothes became dazzling white to reveal His heavenly glory (Luke 9:28-36). Condemned by sinful men, He was dressed with a purple robe and mocked as the King of the Jews (Mark 15:16-20, … Continue reading Christmas Clothes

God keeps His promises

Over the past few weeks, my heart has been breaking over the tragedies across our country and around the world. Closer to home, I have talked with friends whose lives and families are crumbling. I've got some fears and some doubts about things swirling around me, as well. We know that God is sovereign, but things, people, … Continue reading God keeps His promises

Trials

Could there have been anything more tedious, anything more ill-timed for Mary and Joseph than following political orders to travel for a census when she was 9 months pregnant?  I imagine the tiresome commute to Bethlehem and their disappointing search for lodging was not immediately recognized by Mary and Joseph as something “good” from the Lord. … Continue reading Trials

Defining Value

We live in a world that greatly values power and performance while richly rewarding physical athleticism and external beauty. As our nation prepares for the 2016 presidential election, candidates are raising millions of dollars and a few are spending their self-amassed fortunes to become one of the most powerful leaders of the world. CEO's of fortune … Continue reading Defining Value
