Veterans

Today, we pause as a nation to give thanks—to God and to those who have served. Veterans Day offers us an opportunity not only to remember history but to recognize the people behind it—men and women who answered a call greater than themselves.

The Plano East Rotary Club observes Veterans Day by setting out hundreds of American flags for its Flags of Honor display.

Scripture reminds us that “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” [John 15:13]. JESUS spoke those words to describe His own sacrificial love for us, but they also echo in the lives of those who have risked comfort, safety, and even life itself in service to others. Veterans embody this truth in tangible ways. Their courage, endurance, and devotion reflect, however imperfectly, the self-giving love of Christ.

As followers of JESUS, we recognize that true peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of righteousness. We long for that perfect day when nation will not take up sword against nation [Isaiah 2:4]. Yet until that day, we honor those who have stood in defense of freedom, justice, and the protection of the vulnerable.

To our veterans: thank you. Thank you for your sacrifice, for the years you gave, for the families who waited and prayed, and for the quiet humility you carry long after your service ended. You remind us that gratitude should lead to action—to serve, to care, to stand firm in faith and courage in our own calling.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. And may we, as His people, live in a way that honors the peace He purchased and the freedom so many have defended.

Follow me…as I follow Jesus Christ.
